Educational Objectives:

  1. Define key terms and describe the use of dental imaging

  2. Explain what happens during ionization

  3. Describe the properties of x-radiation

  4. Describe the effect of kilovoltage on the quality of the
    x-ray beam

  5. Identify the range of kilovoltage and milliamperage required for dental imaging

  6. Discuss the effects of radiation exposure on the
    human body

  7. Discuss the risks versus the benefits of dental imaging

  8. Identify the critical organs that are sensitive to radiation

  9. Describe the ALARA concept

  10. Describe methods to protect the patient and the operator from excess radiation

  11. Properly describe the procedure for exposing and developing digital and traditional radiographs

  12. Identify advantages and disadvantages of digital radiography
